Erika Bailey - Erika Bailey (Isabella in Measure for Measure) is an actress and a voice and speech teacher in New York City.  She has performed with The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Boomerang Theatre Company, The Pearl Theatre and La Mama etc among others.  She received her MFA in Acting from Brandeis University and her MA in Voice Studies from Central School of Speech and Drama in London. As a voice teacher she has taught for the Shakespeare Lab at the Public Theatre, the Juilliard School Drama Division, and Carnegie Mellon University¹s BFA program.  She is thrilled to be working with John Castro and the vestiges of Compass Rose once again.

 

Sara Barker - (Hostess, Curtis) played Paulina in Hipgnosis’ The Winter’s Tale and King Lear in The Brick Theater’s King Lear directed by Michael Gardner. Other credits include Puck in Midsummer Night’s Dream; Katerina in The Brothers Karamozov; Bevel Coffin in the premiere of Anton Dudley’s Pleaching the Coffin Sisters; Woman in Car in the International WOW Company's premiere of Limitless Joy, Meg in Stillpoint Production’s premiere of Death Might Be Your Santa Claus; Laura in Eric Emmanuel Schmitt's Between Worlds; Libby in Clifford Odet's Paradise Lost; Sherry in Lee Blessing’s Independence; Model in David Hare’s The Blue Room; and Anne in Sutton Vane’s Outward Bound. Demetrios Bonaros - (Sly, Pedant, Producer, Composer) co-produced and acted in Hipgnosis’ Measure for Measure (Elbow) and The Winter's Tale (Autolucys), also composing original music for The Winter's Tale. With The Compass Rose Theatre Co. he appeared in productions of Measure for Measure (Lucio) and Much Ado about Nothing (Balthasar/Second Watch). Demetrios has worked with Philadelphia’s Pig Iron Theatre Co. on The Island; he is the creator of Live TV, a one-man clown piece; and he recently appeared in Theatron, Inc’s modern Greek adaptation of Molière’s The Doctor in Spite of Himself. He has studied Mathematics and Theatre at Swarthmore College and Villanova University, Commedia dell’Arte with Antonio Fava, Lecoq (neutral mask, clown, bouffon) with Pig Iron member Sarah Sanford, piano at the Conservatory of Athens, Greece, and voice with Julian Rodescu. Demetrios plays trumpet, percussion and ukulele and is currently honing his Ancient Greek skills with an eye towards translating a Greek play for production.
Nick Brooks - (Lord, Vincentio). New York Theatre includes: Duke Vincentio in Hipgnosis’ Measure for Measure, Berowne in Love’s Labour’s Lost (Shakespeare in the Parking Lot), Don Pedro in Much Ado about Nothing (Compass Rose Theatre) and Simon Girty in The Devil and Daniel Webster (City Center). Regional Theatre includes: Wilderness of Mirrors (by Charles Evered at Harper Joy Theatre, WA), Breaking the Code (Magic Theatre, CA), King Lear, All’s Well that Ends Well, Cyrano de Bergerac (Shakespeare Theatre, NJ) and Real Dreams, Tom Jones, Running Funny, Tooth of Crime, Henry IV, The American Clock (Williamstown Theatre Festival). Guthrie Brunk-London - is a sixth-grader at St. Ann's School in Brooklyn. In his free time he likes drawing and making videos.

John Castro - (Director, Producer) has directed over 20 plays, including The Winter's Tale and Measure for Measure for Hipgnosis Theatre Company; As You Like It and Much Ado About Nothing for The Compass Rose Theatre Company; and a number of productions for Sedentary Productions in Washington, DC including Harold Pinter's Betrayal and The Dumb Waiter, David Mamet's The Shawl and Oleanna; and John Patrick Shanley's Danny and the Deep Blue Sea . John has appeared as an actor in several roles, including John Diehl in Does This Woman Have a Name? at the Eclipse Grange Theatre in Vermont; and Verges in Much Ado About Nothing and Charles the Wrestler in As You Like It for the Compass Rose Theatre Company. John is a graduate of St. John's College in Annapolis, MD.
Eric Chase - is an actor from Maine, currently living in Astoria, NY. He has performed with Bakerloo Theatre Project for several years, playing Brutus in Julius Caesar, Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Leo in Design for Living, Longaville in Love’s Labour’s Lost, and Sebastian in Twelfth Night or What You Will. Eric joined the board in 2004 and accepted leadership of the company in 2006. Apart from Bakerloo he has worked with many other companies including the Laboratory of International Theater Exchange, Impact Theater, Zabawa Theater Company, The New Ensemble, Emerging Artists Theater Company, Penobscot Theater's Shakespeare on the River, and won a Best Actor in a Full Length Play at the Spotlight on Winter festival in 2001.
Kate Dulcich - (Katherina, Player). With the Hipgnosis Theatre Company, Kate has performed in Measure for Measure (Mistress Overdone) and The Winter's Tale (Dorcas/First Lady). She is a graduate of Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied at the Stella Adler Studio. Some of her favorite roles at Adler were Dawn Midnight in the Five Lesbian Brother's The Secretaries, Isabella/Joyce/Nell in Caryl Churchill's Top Girls, and Elizabeth in James McClure's Laundry and Bourbon. Kate has acted in several original plays in Manhattan and Brooklyn and has also co-produced and starred in Lanford Wilson's one-act Home Free, directed by Hipgnosis' John Castro.
  Lara Evangelista - recently joined Hipgnosis and is happy to be part of such a talented company. She studied Theatre at the University of Albany and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education at Queens College. A former NYC schoolteacher (and proud of it), she has coordinated a number of Performing Arts programs in local high schools. Additionally, Lara was a member of the Sacred Fools Theater in Los Angeles and is currently the production manager on the independent film, Killing Mr. Right.

Hal Fickett - (Biondello) recently finished playing Phil in Keen Company's production of Tea and Sympathy at Theatre Row. He is thrilled to be working with Hipgnosis again, and was last seen in its fall production of The Winter's Tale as Florizel.  Other NY credits include Roger in Andrew Biss’ Indigenous Peoples at Theatre Row, and the numerous solo performances he's written and performed around town.  Thanks to Ryan, Ariel, Lexie and as always his Mom and Grandfather.
Carlton Franklin - He was last seen on stage with the Warehouse District Social Club in their production of Summer. He has also been seen in various TV commericals for Bacardi and The Virgina State Lottery. He has enjoyed working with this company and looks forward to future projects with them.
Carli Gaughf - (stage manager for Measure for Measure) most recently directed The Credeaux Canvas at the American Theatre of Actors, was a stage manager for Watbanaland at the Blue Heron, and a production assistant on Fat Pig at the Lortel.  She directed the premiere of How to Lock Up, Talk Down, and Get Things Done for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2004 and was an assistant director at the Hangar Theatre Lab Company in Ithaca, NY.  Carli is the Head of Director Development for the Epiphany Theatre Company.
Lindsay Goss - is a director, actor, and improv artist. In January she moved to New York from Minneapolis, MN, where her directing credits included: Trifles with Theatre Unbound, and One Flea Spare and Extremities with the MacPlayers. She recently completed a literary
internship with the New York Theatre Workshop, and is currently a
collaborator with the new company peoplmovr.
Sarah Hewes - (soprano) is excited to work with Hipgnosis Theatre Company on Taming of the Shrew, and has herself played the role of Kate in the Broadway version of this classic, Kiss Me Kate. Ms. Hewes graduated summa cum laude from Emerson College and will attend the London School of Economics in the fall. In addition to her academic pursuits, Ms. Hewes has trained as a classical singer for many years, studying at such places as Interlochen Arts Camp, Westminster Choir College and Longy School of Music and was an award winner at the Opera League Competition of Maine. Ms. Hewes grew-up performing in musicals and since moving to New York has sung with the Grace Church Choral Society, as well as in a farrago of other settings.
  Jes Hinkle - (Props Master for Measure for Measure). Jessica’s New York City credits include ongoing props work for the Wildlife Conservation Society’s educational outreach and children’s theater program, the creation of Gulliver the Gnome for Blue Heron Theater’s world premiere of Trailerville, as well as the Off World Theater’s production of Invasion. When not building props, Jessica is also a scenic artist, carpenter, electrician, and Off Off Broadway lighting designer.  She currently runs the followspot for the award-winning Off-Broadway hit Altar Boyz and is the light board operator and master electrician for the on-going Off-Broadway production of Naked Boys Singing!   Check out their sites: www.altarboyz.com and www.nakedboyssinging.com
  Jonathan Hood - (Huntsman 1, Servant 1) recently graduated from Yale, where he most notably helped directed a trilogy of original plays about a future in which underwater geysers may come through the wall of your submarine to steal your hand. He was a member of the Control Group experimental theater troupe and acted in various other projects. His favorite roles were Gonzalo in The Tempest: A Glamrock Musical Odyssey, Aegisthus in the Oresteia, and Wilbur in the Yale Children's Theater's Charlotte's Web
Pharah Jean-Philippe - (Widow, Servant 2, Nicholas). Pharah’s stage credits include productions of Conversations with a Kleagle (Lurinda Watson), To Kill a Mockingbird (Calpurnia), The Vagina Monologues (The Little Coochie Snorcher That Could), and for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf (Lady in Red). Pharah has appeared in such films as Hot, Hot, Not (Lakisha), Mardi Gras (Collette), and Caged Byrd (Diana). Born and raised in Brooklyn, she has studied with great teachers such as: Duane Boutte, Roz Coleman, Angela Montalbano, Mary Boyer, Ariane Brandt, Bill Duke, Mary Setrakian, and Jeanne Kaplan. Thanks to family & friends for all of their loving support and Jesus, her Lord God and Savior, from which all blessings flow (Lam 3:21-23). She is extremely honored to be a part of Hipgnosis Theater Company.

John Kevin Jones - New York credits include Jeffrey (opposite Bryan Batt) at Lincoln Center and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told with the Gay Pride Series, Lost And Found at the Phil Bosokowski Theatre, and Spring's Awakening with the Michael Chekhov Theatre Company. Kevin has appeared regionally with American Stage in St. Pete, Florida (The Pavilion), Arkansas Rep. (Othello), Kentucky Rep (The Rivals, All My Sons, Comedy of Errors), Playhouse on the Square in Memphis, Tennessee (Angels in America, Last Night of Ballyhoo, Gross Indecency). Kevin is also a director and playwright. Directing credits include A Lie of the Mind at Theatre Memphis, Revenge of the Space Pandas at Texas Shakespeare Festival and Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella at Playhouse on the Square. Kevin's play, Getting It, received a workshop at the Fresh Fruit Festival. His most recent work, He Switched, received a public reading from the Emerging Artists Theatre. Matt Kinney - (Page, Nathaniel) has been living and performing in NY for the past several years.  His recent NY credits include 365 Days/365 Plays at the Public Theater, The Best of the 24 Hour Plays for FringeNYC 2006, and Hail Satan with Gideon Productions.   His other NY credits include the never-ending run of The MacGuffin? at the Bowery Poetry Club, Out of Body and Out of Mind (FringeNYC 2005), Safety Pop (Philly Fringe), Space Karaoke, Suicide/Joke (FringeNYC 2004) Project C: Is This a Dream? (FringeNYC 2002), Never Live Long in Cages (FringeNYC 2001), Ho Ho Ho, The Second String, and The 24 Hour Plays.  His regional credits include Hay Fever, The Real Thing, 1940’s Radio Hour, The Complete History of America (abridged), and performing with the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival.  Matthew is a native of North Carolina and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill

 

David Laufgraben - (Grumio). Recent New York Credits: Hipgnosis Theatre Company’s Measure for Measue (Provost) and The Winter’s Tale (Clown), Stillpoint Productions' Death Might Be Your Santa Claus (Walt) and The International WOW Co.'s Limitless Joy (String Theory). While a member of Ithaca's Hangar Theatre Lab Company, David appeared in Equus (Frank) and Haarlem Berlin (Subgeneral Smith). Other favorites include Death and the Maiden (Dr. Miranda) and Uncle Vanya (Astrov). He graduated from Yale with a BA in Theater Studies.

David Look - (Baptista). All credits NYC. Favorite roles include: Angelo (Hipgnosis Theatre Company’s Measure for Measure), Earnest (The Importance of Being Earnest), Mercutio (Romeo and Juliet), Bassanio, Shylock (The Merchant of Venice), Teach (American Buffalo), Bradley (Buried Child). Training: AMDA, RADA, and The Actors Center.

Elizabeth Mirarchi - (Bianca). Hipgnosis: Measure for Measure, The Winter's Tale. Previous stage roles include Olivia in Twelfth Night, Gwendolen in The Importance of Being Earnest, Jane in Fallen Angels, and Mariane in Tartuffe (National Theatre of the Performing Arts). Beth works as a teaching artist in the South Bronx. Directing credits include Laura Cunningham's Flop Cop at Smith College, and The Ms. Champagne Series, written and performed by her students at I.S. 318. Beth studied theatre and Italian language and literature at Smith College, and will begin graduate work at NYU in the fall.

Luke Mitchell - composed and performed music for Hipgnosis Theatre Company’s Measure for Measure and has played bass on stage for more than twenty years. He is a graduate of the University of Kansas and is currently a senior editor at Harper’s Magazine.

Margot Newkirk - (Assistant Director, Producer, Composer/Sound Designer), a founding member of Hipgnosis Theater Company, is a playwright and theater practitioner in New York City. Her most recent writing project: American Helpings (Dixon Place), a 14-actor word operetta for the stage written in collaboration with Alvin Eng. Hipgnosis roles: Assistant Director, Measure for Measure (June, '06); Perdita, The Winter's Tale (November, '06). Margot has a B.A. in English Literature from Macalester College, where she studied African Music under the tutelage of Master Dummer and Ethnomusicologist, Sowah Mensah. Before coming to New York, Margot taught Anthropology and Greek Mythology for ITHAKA, a semester study program in Crete, Greece. In New York she has worked for the Atlantic Theater Company, Voice & Vision Theater, and New Dramatists in new play development.
  Rob Nguyen - (Stage Manager) is very excited to join the Hipgnosis team on this production. Stage management credits include A Collapse (New York Fringe Festival); The Haunting of 85 East 4th Street (Radiotheatre); The Field of Mars: Chapter 1 (Counts Media, Inc.). Recent work also includes lighting design for Romeo and Juliet (Genesis Repertory) and the role of Mungo in The Island of Dr. Moreau (Radiotheatre). Rob is a graduate of Fordham University.

James Nugent - Broadway: Larry Shue's The Nerd. Shalin Patel - (Phillip, Huntsman 2, Production Co-ordinator) is a new member to Hipgnosis and in his first NY production. A native Texan and recent arrival to NY, he stays occupied with acting and freelancing while taking in this gigantic metropolis. He’s a TX A&M graduate and enjoys music, film, outdoors, people and anything mechanical.
Julian Rozzell - (Hortensio, Set Designer, Scenic Painter) is a former student of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London, the Rybinsk Theater Company, Rybinsk Russia and The Barter Theater of Virginia. Recent credits include the role of Garcin in No Exit with Imago Theater in Portland, Oregon; Aaron in Titus Andronicus with Milwaukee Shakespeare; Mr. Venus in Passing Strange with The New York Public Theater; and Lucio in Measure for Measure and Polixenes in The Winter’s Tale with Hipgnosis. Julian is also a painter and percussionist.
Adelia Saunders - (Julietta in Measure for Measure) is glad to add Julietta to her repetoire of knocked-up teenagers.  Her accidental pregnancies include Karen in the Harbor Theatre's Shortly After Takeoff and Lily in Junk at the KDC Theatre in London.  Adelia studied acting at NYU, training at the Stella Adler Studio and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.  She has played Jessica in The Merchant of Venice, Irma in Picnic at Hanging Rock, Elena in Uncle Vanya and Goneril in King Lear.  Film and TV credits include The Black Donnelleys, Law and Order: Trial By Jury and Stephanie Daley.
Wayne Alon Scott - (Petruchio, Player) is happy to be back working with the Hipgnosis Theatre Company. In Hipgnosis’ inaugural show, Measure for Measure, he played the prisoner Barnardine. He then served as props master for The Winter’s Tale. Other NY credits: Target Margin Theatre’s acclaimed production of Faust at Classic Stage Company, with Ty Jones and David Greenspan; Red Bull Theatre’s inaugural production of Pericles at the Culture Project; 365 Plays in 365 Days Festival at the Public Theatre; Helena and Faust in Love at the Ohio Theatre; and the Ice Factory production of The Flight of Icarus. Regionally, Wayne has performed at the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Insurrection, Holding History; and at the McCarter Theatre in the McCarter Shorts festival. Wayne’s film and TV credits include Law and Order; Law and Order SVU; Third Watch; recently a recurring role on All My Children; and the films Aftermath, Mary Thomas Story and Saint of Avenue B. Wayne is currently in pre-production with his newly-formed production company, Sulcata Productions, on a short film he’s written and is directing, called Macaroons, starring fellow Hipgnosis members Julian Rozzell, Jr. and Demetri Bonaros. He is also working on another script, Meatball Man. Wayne is a graduate of the Julliard School, Drama Division.
Ayanna Siverls - (Tailor, Servant 3, Joseph, Messenger) began her acting career at the National Black Theatre, located in Harlem. Some of her theatre credits include: Caseload (The Workshop Theatre), For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow was Enuf, Oya, Sea Island Nightmare, along with her regional debut in Crumbs from the Table of Joy. In addition, she starred and appeared in several independent shorts and feature independent films. Her latest film to date is The Black Sorority Project, Red Wall Productions. Ayanna is also very grateful to be a part of the Shrew cast and family.  “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me”…PHIL 3:14

Sarah Sokolovic - (Assistant Costume Designer). With Hipgnosis, Sarah played Marianna in Measure for Measure and Hermione in The Winter’s Tale. She recently worked with Milwaukee Repertory Theatre and The Abbey (Dublin) Theatre's Ben Barnes on Friel's adaptation of A Month in the Country by Turgenyev, in the role of Katya. She has spent her past summers with American Players Theatre in Springreen, WI (Twelfth Night, Othello and Playboy of the Western World) and Montana Shakespeare in the Parks (Cymbeline and The Taming of the Shrew). Sarah has worked for various theatres in the Midwest for the past seven years, including Madison Rep, Milwaukee Rep, Chamber Theatre, Next Act, Firstage Milwaukee, and Milwaukee Shakespeare.
Justin Steeve - (Technical Director, Lighting Designer, Set Designer, Producer). A founding member of Hipgnosis, Justin co-produced and designed sets and lights for Hipgnosis' Measure for Measure and The Winter's Tale, also acting in the roles of Claudio and Camillo, respectively. With The Compass Rose Theatre Company, Justin appeared as Claudio in Much Ado about Nothing, Tranio in The Taming of the Shrew and Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet. Justin has also acted with or designed for Moonwork, Breedingground, Shakespeare Theater NJ, Thermodynamic Theater, Bakerloo Theater Project and the Cherry Lane Theatre. He also has a few voiceover credits to his name. Justin is a graduate of Drew University.
Douglas Streater - (Lucentio). A native of South Carolina, and a resident of New York, Douglas has always gravitated to the stage. His list of notable shows includes: Jackie, Vi, and Lena, My Soul is a Witness, Ritual Starvation, Good, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, and the River Niger. Douglas would like to dedicate his performance to the biggest inspiration in his life, his mother, the late Gladys Douglas Samuel. All things are possible through Christ
  Krista Thomas - (Costume Designer, Set Designer) joins Hipgnosis for the third time, having also designed Measure for Measure and The Winter’s Tale. Krista has designed costumes at Santa Fe Opera (Capuleti, Manon), The Julliard School (Pecan Tan, Pigeon, The Beginning of No), the Lark Theatre (Earth Girls Are Easy), and Ohio Valley Summer Theatre (The Sound of Music, Arsenic and Old Lace). She also production designed the short film The Road Virus Heads North, which screened at the New York Horror Film Festival last year.
Rachel Tiemann - graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Theatre Performance. In her native St. Louis she performed with the likes of St. Louis Shakespeare Co. and the St. Louis Repertory Theatre.  Her New York credits include: Everywhere Leaks Are Appearing at Dixon Place and WAX, Fractal Remainder at the Ground Floor Theatre and at the West End Theatre as part of the Artists of Tomorrow Festival, and an excerpt of Old Tricks at Galapagos as part of the Catch Series. She has also performed with Red Metal Mailbox as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in Safety Pop. She recently performed Old Tricks at The Chocolate Factory and How to Raise the Dead with the Tennessee Project at Phoenix ArtSpace. She has also been lucky enough to train with Sarah Sanford and Suli Holum of the Pig Iron Theatre Co.  She is thrilled to be among the talent of Hipgnosis Theatre and is a company member of Red Metal Mailbox as well. Rachel teaches for the New Acting Company in Greenwich Village.
Richard Ugino - (Tranio) has performed nationally as well as at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York with the original Equity company of If This Hat Could Talk, directed by Tony Award-winner George Faison. Other New York: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as several readings and workshops. Regional: West Side Story (Baltimore Lyric Opera House), Amadeus (Syracuse Stage). Additional: Chicago, Into the Woods, A Moon for the Misbegotten, Man of La Mancha, and Billy Bishop Goes to War. A proud member of Actors’ Equity Association, Richard holds a B.F.A. from Syracuse University.

This is Doug's first production with Hipgnosis. Other fight choreography credits include productions of Romeo and Juliet, Henry V, Julius Caesar, Othello, Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth, Jeckyll & Hyde, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, Stargirl (World premiere), Murdering Marlowe (NYC Premiere), The Brothers Karamazov (East Coast Premiere), and Corleone; The Shakespearean Godfather (co-choreographer, NYC Premiere). Doug has also taught stage combat for, The McCarter Theatre Company, The Pennington School, Brundage Park Playhouse, Papermill Playhouse, The New Jersey Theater Alliance and The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. Doug is also a proud member of Actor's Equity.
  Lanie Zipoy - (Public relations) is thrilled to re-team with Hipgnosis. As an independent public relations consultant, her clients include soprano Alison Davy, Japanese tap dance/drumming troupe COBU, and non-profit arts organization Manhattan Theatre Source. During her 15-year career, she has worked on media packages for sports, political campaigns and the performing arts. Recent projects include the staged reading of High School Musical at New World Stages, the award-winning short film "Band of Sisters", the sold-out smash hit Twelfth Night: The Drinking Game (named one of the best Off-Off Broadway productions of 2005 – 2006 by OffOffOnline.com), critically acclaimed family audience theatrical production This Is Not A Pipe Dream, Canadian import One Good Marriage ("Canadian Gothic" – The New York Times), and FringeNYC Award winner Jesus in Montana.
